Long term impact. For undergraduates in the process of choosing a research group and topic, note that the opportunitites that you will create through the conduct of your thesis work cannot be underestimated. Upon graduation, this thesis experience can have a powerful impact, if you decide right at the outset, on your immediate post-undergrad career. Whether your goal is (1) graduate school, or (2) a technical start up company of your own, or (3) immediate employment in a technology company, it will behoove you to decide that in this thesis year you will pour your energies on (1) research that is grounded on deep science and sound engineering principles of efficiency, economy and elegance, (2) that answers a strong societal and industrial need and (3) requires the acquisition and practice of leading edge engineering skills and technologies, all informed by, indeed inspired by the highest standards of ethical and moral principles.
