Syllabus: Digital System Design Lecture (CE 40, ELC 111.1, Ch 174.1, Ps 140)

Digital System Design covers number system, combinatorial logic, sequential system and algorithmic state machine. The course aims to guide the student into developing a working knowledge of digital system. At the end of the course, the student is expected to be familiar with basic gates, decoders, multiplexers, programmable logic devices, flip-flops, registers, counters, algorithmic and/or finite state machines among others. The student will have the chance to design and solve digital system problems.

II. Requirements A. Final Grade Class Work Tests, quizzes, assignments, reports (90%) Class participation (10%)

B. Class Policies

  • Class attendance is always checked (by the beadle).
  • Students are allowed 9 cuts for the lecture and 3 cuts for the lab. Exceeding the allowable number of cuts in either the lecture or the lab automatically merits a grade of W for the course.
  • Maintain an atmosphere of an academic classroom.
C. Grading System
  • A 92-up
  • B+ 87-91+
  • B 81-86+
  • C+ 76-80+
  • C 70-75+
  • D 60-69+
  • F 59+ below
III. Mailing List A mailing list (or e-group) shall be established for the course. Various materials may be distributed thru the mailing list. While membership in the mailing list is not a requirement of the course, students who do not join the mailing list are responsible for material(s) distributed thru the mailing list.
