A. Course Description
This course is aimed at developing the students’ ability to represent objects (machine, structure or system) accurately in printed form. The course includes developing skills in planning, designing, and construction of graphical representations using manual drafting techniques. This course will introduce the students to the language of engineering graphics in preparation for a course in computer aided design (ECE 12).
B. Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the student must be able to comfortably work with drafting instruments in order to make accurate graphic representations of objects using manual drafting techniques.
C. Course Outline
1. Course Introduction
2. History and Term Definitions
3. Familiarization with Drafting Instruments
4. Lettering
5. Alphabet of Lines
6. Dimension Techniques
7. Geometric Constructions
8. Conic Sections (Circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbola)
9. Curves
10. View of Objects
11. Multi-view Projection
12. Practical Application (Project)
D. Class Requirements

____500 pts_____ Maximum Points 2000 pts
Final Grade = (Total Score / 2000 pts) with equivalent letter grade below:
92 – 100 = A 79 – 82+ = C+ 60 and below = F 87 – 91+ = B+ 72 – 78+ = C 83 – 86+ = B 60 – 71+ = D
E. Policies
1. Attendance will be checked right after the second bell. A student arriving 20 minutes after the second bell will be considered absent. A late is considered one-thirds of a cut. Only a maximum of 3 cuts are allowed for each student. (Over cut = W)
2. Any form of cheating will merit a score of 0 points for the requirement (quiz, activity or project).
3. The contents of this syllabus may still be modified by the instructor, if necessary, but with due notice to the students.
4. Plates are due one week from the day of discussion (during class time). Every day of late submission will merit a deduction of 10 points to the actual grade.
5. The students are responsible for securing their copy of the drafting template.
6. The students should bring at least two blank templates and one short bond paper to class every meeting.
7. No make up quizzes and exams will be given unless the reason is medical in nature.
8. A drafting plate without the instructor's signature will merit a deduction of 20 points.
9. The students are responsible for securing their own copies of the class lecture notes and materials and for reading and understanding assigned readings.
10. Bonuses will be given if the instructor is happy with the class’ performance.
F. Consultation Hours
Official consultation hours are Mondays, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and Wednesdays, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. For times outside consultation hours, schedule a meeting with the instructor. You may contact the instructor at mobile number +639166349681 or e-mail at
