This graduate colloquium course is a one-unit subject designed to provide a venue for graduate students to learn the tools of collaboration, result dissemination and scientific reporting. Apart from presentation skills, the students are expected to explore new venues such as wikis and hosted multimedia, in the process of collaboratively working towards completion of their MS thesis.

Requirements for Summer 2009:

  • Google email account
  • Google site (or equivalent, must have security and share settings and some basic analytics tools)
  • Research Plan: Title, Motivation, Review of Lit, Expt Plan, Expected Results
  • Draft Thesis Document: Outline, Intro Chapter,Biblio list, results
  • Draft scientific paper
  • Press release
  • Tech blogposts
  • Minimum of one significant site content update every Tue and Saturday.
  • Regular postings and interactions with coursemates

This summer, the focus will shift from conventional powerpoint presentations to offline web interaction. We will schedule face to face meetings once a week. The colloquium grades will be based on the objective progress of students towards their thesis goals, the accomplishment of requirements listed above, and the quality and frequency of the interaction with peers and the coordinating faculty member.
