Nathaniel Libatique is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Electronics Computer and Communications Engineering at the Ateneo de Manila University. He has one US patent awarded on wavelength selectable lasers and more than 45 publications and conference presentations in the fields of optics and semiconductors, communications, wireless sensors and systems and biomedical engineering. He was an International Center for Theoretical Physics Junior Fellow (from 1990-91), a Japan JASCAA Fellow (from 1990-93), and a Fulbright Student Fellow (from 1996-1999).

His current interests include the engineering and design of systems for sustainable development - technology platforms for health, renewable community based energy, clean water and scalable wireless sensors and logistics for aquaculture.

Nathaniel Libatique co-founded, as one of the first research engineers, lightwave systems and medical photonic startups Kiara Networks and Sterling Photonics in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also recently co-founded Futurist Innovation Inc. that is forming engineering project teams that attack multi-disciplinary problems such as systems for sustainable energy and environment as well as personal medical devices and health systems for the bottom of the pyramid.
