Many of the important issues that impact society, such as the behavior of the immune system, the spread of diseases and the intensification of epidemics, the growth of the internet and social networks, spread of computer viruses, extreme weather patterns and accelerated climate change, the global economy and the causes of financial meltdown, the accumulation of faults and catastrophic circuit failure, not to mention the collective intelligence of ants and the mysterious jump from neuronal circuits to thought and consciousness are all part of a new paradigm of understanding systems, beyond the conventional linear time invariant deterministic paradigms of conventional engineering design. Several topics of interest will include the following:

  • Quality of Service of SMS – evidence of Communications Systems Response to Disaster and SMS Traffic Modeling
  • People movement and Connectivity (with Teknomo of DISCS)- research project on human movement with cellular traffic
  • Modeling of Complex Systems – Rain Maps using CA, Network Disasters, Biological Systems, Wireless Networks in Rain
  • Collective behavior of autonomous robots
